While playing around with the loops at first I put some of them into AudioMulch and improvised a strange sequence of sounds. I used this as the introduction section, then created the rest of the track using Acid. My idea for the track was that out of the soup of sounds a real song should emerge over time as more recognizable elements came to the foreground. All sounds in this remix came from the original set of Blind Mime loops. The most challenging part here was making minute edits to the vocal lines to make them fit my modified rhythms.

This remix was created using guidance from Brian Eno and Peter Schwalm’s “Oblique Strategies” cards. Every so often during the process I drew a random card from the deck that suggested the direction the remix should take. I used 5 cards in total.

I had this vocal effect in mind before I started working on the remix. So that’s really what it’s based around. I believe this is my longest remix ever. The title pays homage to a Mystery Science Theater episode with a bad movie about homocidal puppets, just like in the song.

This remix was done mostly in Audiomulch. At first listen my test subject nearly vomited, so I tamed the mix a bit in the mastering stages. Hopefully nobody becomes carsick from this remix.

I sequenced the vocal samples using AudioMulch’s Drums contraption, and added in a couple of normal drum sounds. For some reason they were all playing much too fast. So I slowed the whole mix down to 50% speed and it sounded better. Later on I added a bassline and a synth part with the Virus.

I did two previous remixes for Brad, and they were both abstract, weird things, so this time I wanted to do something a little more structured. All sounds are processed versions of loops from the set, even the ones that sound like synths.

Done in one evening after listening to the track for the first time, a little late. Wasn’t sure I was going to do a remix of this, but I started getting ideas and had to finish!

I improvised this ambient remix using Audiomulch. This was the 3rd take.

This remix uses all four vocal takes. The first sound you hear is a crazily-effected version of one of the drum loops.

I wanted to use a lighter touch on this remix, because the source song is so pretty. However, I did include a terrible pun to make up for it.

Slow, spacey, uses only sounds from the original song.

I dreamified and extended the song a bit, and added some extra space to be able to build up a bit more of a feeling of climax in it. I also added some extra percussion from Bill Laswell and convolutions from Spirit Canyon Audio.

A bit of a speed remix, done in Audiomulch, that sounds nothing like the original.

I’ve always wanted to do a “rock instrumental” song in the style of Booker T. & the M.G.’s and such. I figured Victor’s excellent samples were my opportunity to make that a reality, so here it is. The title was suggested by my friend Mark. He had a movie playing in his head for this track.
