Fight #0031: Future Boy - Strange Little World (2 AM Homicide Mix) [winner]

This is my first take on this remixfight thing. I had some trouble with it, as the singing seemed to be rather out of key in some parts. It sounds fine in Futureboy’s original version but I wasn’t able to make it work as well as he did. For this mix I more or less ditched most of the instrumentation (except for the pads) and messed with string/ensemble soundfonts. I think it turned out pretty nicely, and I hope to get some feedback from you guys on it.

Fight #0032: The Idiot Kings - Third String (Tech-Hop Mix)

I didn’t do a whole lot of original work on this one, most of it went into the percussion section. I did a lot of FX and re-weighing the tracks in the mix. Enjoy.

Fight #0035 : Mostly Harmless - RetVC (Snyder’s Dialectical Dub)

I’m happy with this one, I was able to get a really great sound out of the drums. I vocoded the lyrics using the original bass recording as a carrier. The mix is a little chaotic for my liking, considering how beautiful each element of the original is on its own. So yeah, I think this turned out well. But honestly, I’d be content just EQ-ing and mixing the original. It’s a killer track, so big ups
to Puce and TCE.

Fight #0036: Ms. Vybe - M.U.S.T.A.N.G. (Superspy Mix)

Despite the painfully shallow lyrics that go against all I have ever fought for in rap music, I had fun with this track. The original instrumental seemed to lack a hook of any kind, so I tried to make this as catchy as I could. I had problems placing the vocals in the mix–I wanted them to be understandable, but not loud enough to be really annoying. I hope I pulled that off, but I’m still not quite sure.

Fight #0038: Snyder Conglomerate - Voice of the People (XIII Toughguy Dub)

I like the motif I came up with for this mix, and the mixing sounds good to me. I wish I’d made it a bit more compelling, though.

Fight #0039: Ape Club - To The Bottom Of The Ocean (To The Bottom Of The Bristol Sewer System)

I was pretty confused by the tempo of this song, so I just looped the drums and rebuilt a trip-hop track around that. Relaxing.

Fight #0044: Sausage Boy - Old Habits Die Hard (Boogie Down Mix) [winner]

Not a whole lot left of the original track but one vocal sample, and the melody and some of the FX are built from the guitar recordings supplied. Sorry about the long, uneventful verses–there was a rap intended to go with this track but that didn’t come together in time for the deadline.

Fight #0046: MC Frontalot - Braggadocio (Zhuangzi Remix)

I always thought this track had a lot of potential that was a little undermind by the odd, loopy drums. My remix has a swing on the drumloop but not on the instruments, which usually sounds pretty bad but I think it’s kind of a neat effect in this case…also I intended to do more with this track, like adding some new vocals for the chorus but I forgot.
